Thorne Research is an innovative healthcare company providing research-based supplements, health diagnostic technology platforms, as well as the latest in at-home medical evaluations. Dosage forms for supplements includes tablets, capsules, gel capsules, powder, and liquid formulations. Thorne has invested in a new facility located in Summerville, SC. Evans was chosen to lead the design-build effort of the oral dosage supplement production and distribution facility. The facility provides for manufacturing, manufacturing-support, packaging, warehousing, distribution, QA/QC laboratory and administration spaces.

The new 271,620 square foot facility includes a 45,000 square foot production area consisting of 4x milling suites, a blending suite, 6x encapsulation suites, 4 powder and bottle filling/cartoner areas along with support areas such as IBC cleaning, maintenance and in-process labs. The facility also includes 5,000 square feet of analytical and QC labs, 30,000 square feet of office and locker rooms as well as 125,000 of warehouse. Product ingredients and capsules are fed from an 54,000 square foot office/production mezzanine above the production areas. Design included integration of all owner supplied process and utility equipment.

The facility utilizes a building automation system to control pressure, temperature and humidity in ISO-8 classified production areas. The project includes air handling units, electrical equipment, and compressed air generation & distribution systems. Laboratories includes utilities and hook-ups for chemical fume hoods, autoclaves, local exhaust hoods, biosafety cabinets, Micro/QC testing equipment, as well as lab furniture and utilities.
