SDA Inc. is a fully integrated real estate development firm specializing in U.S. government build-to-suit leaseback office and medical buildings. SDA Inc. contracted with Evans General Contractors (Evans) for the construction of a new primary care clinic for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Anderson, South Carolina. Located approximately two miles apart, this new facility will supplement the existing Veterans Clinic in Anderson County by expanding mental health services and increasing overall patient capacity.
The two-story 71,000 SF building shell is designed with a progressive collapse structure, blast resistant concrete tilt panels, and an extensive blast resistant curtainwall/storefront package. The building exterior is a combination of painted concrete tilt panels, stone veneer wrapped stair wells, and a combination of clear and spandrel glass. Inside, the building has many different areas to help assist our veterans with their outpatient clinic needs such as; mental health, physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiology, women’s health, and optometry. Each of these areas are complete with their own exam rooms, triage rooms, offices, and classrooms. The facility also has some specialty rooms inside including an X-Ray room, an audio booth, an infectious/hazardous waste room, and a rehabilitation gym.
The large open-air lobby is aesthetically designed with a painted steel roof structure, ceramic tile flooring, and high-end reception desks. The building was designed to LEED Gold standards which required locally sourced materials and an extensive recycling program during construction. Other items installed to help the facility meet the LEED Gold standard are; a solar powered hot water system, daylight sensors/occupancy sensors for lighting in offices/exams rooms, an energy efficient mechanical system, and an extensive landscape package.
Evans scope of work on this project started in the early design phases by assisting the architects and engineers in designing a quality and cost-effective facility. After design was complete, construction of the facility as well as the complete site work package was completed.
